Matthew Bagshaw is an artist of many media. He studied painting briefly at Atlanta College of Art, but soon discovered that college was not for him, and stopped going. He continued painting, but also began to explore other means of expression. He became interested in woodworking while living in a tent in the woods in North Georgia. Drawn to the intersection between beauty and utility, he began carving spoons and forks and then progressed small animals, fish, birds, and walking sticks, some which sold here and there, but were mostly given away as gifts. Back in Atlanta now, he is still carving, and beginning to dabble in some other types of woodworking, including making cutting boards and turning bowls. He also makes tobacco pipes and brews his own beer, and he still paints. |
